House price crash soon? After February peak, the Halifax Index falls by 0.5% in March 2026.

After hitting an all time peak of £301,151 in February 2026, the respected Halifax House Price Index fell by 0.5% in March 2026 to an average house price of £299,677.  Halifax puts this down to an increase in mortgage rates caused by the outbreak of war in the Middles East as well as the related increase in energy costs.

The Daily Telegraph is now reporting that some commentators are forecasting an overall drop in house prices of around 5% this year.

Be prepared for a bumpy ride!
